Whew! Its been a hairy few days here after we unexpectedly appeared on the Digg home page and were forced to deal with a scaling issue we didn’t think we’d see so soon. Sorry to all the new developers who came on and signed up for an account only to find your new bot.im screen name’s offline. I’m happy to report that all your bots should be online now. We’ve also added server capacity to accommodate for new accounts. If your bot still appears offline you should try removing it from your buddy list then re-adding it.

We’re excited to be able to get back to work on publishing V2 of the IMified service which features a much improved bot management interface and the ability to attach screen names from other networks to your bots! We’ve also got a nice new look coming that your previewing here on the blog.

Also wanted to send a big thank you out to the fine folks at Voxeo and WorkHabit who graciously offered to help in our scaling efforts.

The bots took a little nap this morning

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Earlier today during some routine DB upgrades we ran across a MySQL bug that took the bots offline for several hours.  No data was lost due to the outage, the core IMified bots were brought back online, and they seem to be behaving very well again.  Now it is me who needs a little nap.

GTalk and AIM, sitting in a tree

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Looks like Google talk users will soon be able to chat with AIM users. Google Operating System (not an offical Google blog, despite the name) has some screenshots of a new Gmail UI that Google’s testing.

Included in the new Gtalk window is an option to sign onto AIM and your AIM buddies appear right alongside your Gtalk contacts. Cool.

What would be better, however, is real integration. Instead of turning the Gtalk web UI into a mutli-protocol client, how about letting Gtalk and AIM users talk to each other at the server level? Gtalk users should be able to talk directly with AIM users. I shouldn’t have to have an AIM account to chat with an IM user over Gtalk, and I shouldn’t have to use the official Gtalk client to do it.

This is a lot like the Microsoft and Yahoo integration. They didn’t integrate their chat systems, they just implemented each other’s protocols in the official clients.

Tumblr 3.0

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Since we pretty much live on the web over here at IMified, we love Tumblr. By aggregating all the different services where your digital life resides, you can build a lifestream blog quickly and easily. Items from your blog, from your photos on the web, from your bookmarks and social networks are all nicely intermingled.

So we’d like to offer our congrats to Tumblr on the launch of Tumblr 3.0, with hundreds of new features, including better pictures and video, audio support, and the ability to post to your tumblelog in a variety of new ways. And we’re proud to be powering the new AIM bot for Tumblr, TumblrBot. If you’ve got a Tumblr account, try it out by adding the screenname TumblrBot to your buddy list and saying hello.

DNS updates

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

We are in the process of moving some of our jabber stuff to new servers. During this time our imified@imified.com jabber screen name may appear offline for a little bit while our new DNS propegates. TTL’s are very low so some of you may not see any glitch at all.

If you’re looking to get some IMified action you can try one of our other screen names, or just hang tight as jabber should be back online shortly.

UPDATE: DNS appears to be mostly propegated now and imified@imified.com should be online. If it does not show online for you, remove the bot and add it to your buddy list again and it should work.

Jabber/Gtalk Downtime

Saturday, July 28th, 2007

As many of you have noticed, our imified@imified.com jabber screen name has been on the fritz the past couple days. The bot is back online now and running like a champ. Sorry for the downtime.

IMified Acquires Real-Time Feed Alerts Leader Feedcrier.com

Monday, May 14th, 2007

We’re very happy to finally announce the acquisition of Feedcrier.com, the leading provider of IM based feed alerts. This one has been in the making for some time now, and we officially welcome Adam Kalsey and the Feedcrier community to IMified.

Through this acquisition, IMified will make use of Feedcrier’s rock solid bot platform and super-fast feed alerting technology to offer a complete IM based solution for interacting with web services and presence based alerting. While we’re still working out our integration strategy, I can tell you that we’ve got some really cool features coming down the road. Besides the obvious ability for users to subscribe to real-time feed alerts, developers will be able to use our new API to push alerts to widget subscribers. With this new alert platform, we plan on offering presence-based alerts that will have the option of being forwarded to your mobile phone via sms. Speaking of mobile phones, we’re working on HTTP enabling your IMified menu so you can interact with IMified on your mobile browser.

We hope to have the two services integrated very soon and are working on a relaunch that will include interface updates and enhanced stability, along with the features mentioned above. Current Feedcrier users should visit the Feedcrier blog for specific details on the acquisition.

Thank you all for your continued support and feedback!

Receive Your Twitter Notifications Through IMified

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

It appears the Twitter IM bots are still down, but have no fear, we just added support for notification updates to go along with the release of status updating last week. What can I say, we’re opportunists!

If you’ve already setup twitter as an IMified service you’ll now see the menu option “Toggle Notifications”. Selecting this option will turn on and off notifications. You might also want to create a couple shortcuts for posting to twitter and toggling notifications for super fast twittering.

Enjoy
