Temporary Fix for Gtalk/Jabber Users – IMified2@gmail.com
We hate to offer up a “hack” for the recent issue with our Gtalk/Jabber screen name but it’s starting to look like we might need another day or two to work out a permanent solution. Current Jabber users can add the screen name “IMified2@gmail.com” to your buddy list and interact with it the same as you would with the other screen name.
** Note: Presence based reminders will not work using this screen name. Reminders will still go to your IM client but will not be sent to your email and or mobile if offline.
Here’s a little insight into what’s going on. We connect to the talk.google.com server to run our Gtalk/Jabber screen name. We are a bit of an anomoly in that we are a screen name running on their server with an extraordinarily high number of buddies, all requesting and receiving presence when the buddy list loads. While we haven’t spoken to Google yet, it looks like their server(s) are having a tough time sending out our presence and receiving our buddies’ presence when we start up the bot.
We’re doing a bit of trailblazing here and expected to run up against some roadblocks along the way. Running a popular bot on different networks presents some challenges as each has their own quirks and rules. Thanks for sticking with us!

IMified Up (Temporary Fix)
Looks like you can use an alternate screen name to connect to IMified via GTalk/Jabber while they work through some growing pains.

Why not running your own jabber server? That’s the great thing about open standards, you don’t need to be depending on the corporation of the moment.

The new address isn’t showing up as being online for me either … am I doing something wrong?

@Aturan Your right, we’re building a Jabber server right now.
@xxdesmus Our logs dhow the imified2@gmail.com screen name being online since yesterday around 10pm est. Try removing, then adding the buddy again.

Well, tell me if I am doing this correctly Dave…
1. I added a new contact as imified2@gmail.com 2. When I hover over the contact in my “Quick Contacts” inside Gmail it doesn’t show the user as being available (no status icon) so I can’t open a chat.
Maybe I am doing something incorrectly?

same here – i also can’t write imified2@gmail.com (Code 503).
Probably getting your own jabber server would be the best permanent solution – shouldn’t take that long to setup and then you’ll have full control.

Or you can spread the load on multiple servers providing more screen names. Which actually reminds me that releasing the bot as open-source might be a good idea. Let everyone run it on their own server.

BlueSky: But that probably fights the business plan of imified.com
imified2@gmail works here in between.

Frank: Oh, does it? Or is it just your vision of bussines coming out form the lack of information about bussines? I don’t want to start a flame, but have you ever read any of ESR’s essays?

Can anyone else confirm that they got this working in the Gmail quick contact buddy list? It doesn’t show either of the jabber accounts as being online (so I can’t “chat” with them).

BlueSky: Calm down – it’s just a guess and that’s why i wrote “probably”. Don’t know their business plans but i guess they know it best theirselves.
@xxdesmus: i got both of them online.
March 15th, 2007 at 1:38 pm
@Frank you have both online inside the gmail client?
That’s odd, I don’t have a damn clue why mine isn’t working then.

imified2@gmail.com shows as online in my contact list. But whenever I type “m” and then “4″ (for my account) it generates links which do not work. Clicking on “account settings” leads to a “server not found” (https:// doesn’t work for any imified page here) and when I remove the s from https it shows a coldfusion error like “File not found: /login.cfm”.

Hey guys, our imified2@gmail.com screen name works, but we are building a Jabber server and will have a new more reliable screen name for Jabber/Gtalk shortly.

Imified2@gmail.com shows as offline still, is there a new fix in the works? thanks

Thanks for the awesome service, but sadly, this gTalk option isn’t working for me. I’ve added IMified2@gmail.com as a contact and have invited it to chat, but it hasn’t shown up yet as “online”.
I’m looking forward to IMified’s own Jabber server.

@BlueSky: I take it you never ran/owned a business in the software industry before?

Hi there, I found your blog via Google while searching for first aid for a heart attack and your post looks very interesting for me.
